Shah Rukh Khan is back on the big screen with Jawan, a film that promises to be a massy entertainer with a message. Directed by Atlee, who is known for his blockbuster films in Tamil cinema, Jawan also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles. The film released in theatres on Thursday, September 7.

Jawan tells the story of Azad Rathore (Shah Rukh Khan), a vigilante who robs the rich and corrupt to help the poor and oppressed. He is aided by a team of six women (Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, among others), who have their own reasons to fight against the system. Azad is also the son of Vikram Rathore (Shah Rukh Khan), a former army officer who was presumed dead after a heroic mission. However, Vikram is alive and hiding, waiting for the right time to take revenge on his enemies.

The film has all the elements of a typical Atlee film: action, emotion, comedy, romance, and drama. The film also touches upon various social issues such as farmer suicides, health care, corruption, and patriotism. The film does not shy away from making political statements and taking digs at the current scenario. The film also pays tribute to Shah Rukh Khan’s previous films and roles, and showcases his versatility and charisma.

The film’s biggest strength is Shah Rukh Khan, who plays both the father and son with equal ease and conviction. He delivers a performance that is both massy and classy, and reminds us why he is one of the biggest stars in the country. Nayanthara plays his love interest and a journalist, who has a crucial role in the plot. She is graceful and charming, and shares a good chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan. Vijay Sethupathi plays the main antagonist, a ruthless politician who has a personal vendetta against Vikram Rathore. He is menacing and menacingly funny, and matches Shah Rukh Khan in every scene.

The film’s first half is fast-paced and engaging, with some thrilling heist sequences and witty dialogues. The film’s second half slows down a bit, especially when it shifts to a women’s prison where Azad lands up. The film also suffers from some clichés and logic loopholes, and could have been trimmed by at least 15 minutes. The songs are catchy but not memorable, and the background score is loud and repetitive.

Jawan is not a perfect film, but it is an entertaining one. It is a film that celebrates Shah Rukh Khan’s star power and Atlee’s mass appeal. It is a film that has something for everyone: action, comedy, romance, drama, and message. It is a film that will make you cheer, clap, laugh, cry, and think.
